That’s right! Taylor Swift announced on August 9, 2023 that her re-recording of her fifth studio album, 1989, will be released on October 27, 2023. The album will feature 13 re-recorded tracks from the original album, as well as five new “From the Vault” tracks.
Swift has been re-recording her old albums in an effort to regain ownership of her masters. In 2019, she signed a deal with Universal Music Group that gave her the rights to re-record her first six albums. She has already released re-recordings of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in 2023.
1989 was originally released in 2014 and was a critical and commercial success. It won Album of the Year at the 2015 Grammy Awards and has sold over 10 million copies in the United States. The album spawned four top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” and “Bad Blood.”
I’m excited to hear 1989 (Taylor’s Version)! I’m sure it will be just as good as the original, if not better.
