Recipes for Classic Apple Pie?

This is a traditional apple pie recipe that is sure to please. It uses a simple pie crust and a filling made with tart apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Ingredients:

  • 1 recipe for double pie crust
  • 6-7 cups thinly sliced tart apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Make the pie crust according to your favorite recipe.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the bottom crust of a 9-inch pie plate.
  5. Top with the top crust and crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Let cool completely before serving.
